Dr J.R. Latham is Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Deakin University and Honorary Fellow in Cultural Studies at the University of Melbourne. He is an interdisciplinary researcher and feminist theorist with expertise in cultural studies, health and medicine, trans/gender and sexuality studies.

His work combines critical concepts of ageing, 'drugs' and narrative with bioethics, queer theory, and science and technology studies (STS) with a focus on improving healthcare for marginalised people.

Dr Latham is an award-winning writer. He was recently recipient of the Feminist Theory Essay Prize for best article of the year, the Australian Women's and Gender Studies Association (AWGSA) Most Distinguished Paper Prize, and co-winner of the Symonds Prize for excellence in critical inquiry from Studies in Gender and Sexuality.

Dr Latham has taught courses in criminology, cultural studies, feminist philosophy, gender studies, history and philosophy of science, Indigenous studies, and sexuality studies. His PhD dissertation, Trans Men's Realities: An Ontological Politics of Sex, Gender and Sexuality, was awarded the Nancy Millis University Medal in 2016 and the AWGSA Best PhD Thesis Prize (2016-2017).
