Dr Lennart Reifels, PhD (Public Health), Dipl.-Psych. (Germany), is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Mental Health, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne and Visiting Research Fellow at the Disaster Research Unit, Department of Political and Social Sciences, Free University of Berlin.

Dr Reifels has extensive research and work experience in academic and national mental health service settings in Australia and Germany, encompassing research, direct service and national training management roles. His key research areas include: population mental health, mental health systems and service research, disaster risk reduction, and strategic adaptation in view of the globally increasing impacts of extreme climatic events and disasters. Dr Reifels has previously led the evaluation of national mental health responses to major Australian bushfire and flood disasters, provided technical reports to Government, and collaborated and published with leading disaster experts in the field. As part of his PhD, Dr Reifels conducted the first systematic state-level survey of the disaster mental health workforce in the world.
