Evgeny is Lecturer in International Relations in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne. His research interests centre on international political economy and politics of trade, as well as European Union politics and external relations.

His research also examines policy diffusion within the networks of private actors in the EU's eastern neighbourhood and in transatlantic relations. He is author of 'Social Standards in EU and US Trade Agreements' (Routledge, International Political Economy of New Regionalism series). His articles appeared in the leading international outlets, including the British Journal of Politics and International Relations, Review of International Organizations, Journal of European Public Policy, Environmental Politics, New Political Economy and Journal of Common Market Studies. He is a co-recipient of the European Commission's Jean Monnet Network Grant establishing the Europe-Asia Security and Trade (EAST) network. Prior to joining the University of Melbourne, Evgeny was Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Glasgow and taught at Nankai University in China.
