Han Lim

Associate Professor Han Lim is a clinical academic at the University of Melbourne, Austin and Northern Hospitals. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Melbourne and completed his Cardiology training at the Austin Hospital, before undertaking subspecialty training in the area of cardiac electrophysiology.

He is a recipient of the National Health and Medical Research Council Medical Postgraduate Scholarship for his PhD. His doctoral studies were in the area of stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (AF) under the mentorship of Professor Prash Sanders. He was awarded the William W. Parmley Young Author Achievement Award (Parmley Prize) by the American College of Cardiology in 2012. Following the award of the National Health and Medical Research Council Early Career Fellowship, Dr Lim undertook his postdoctoral studies and overseas advanced cardiac electrophysiology fellowship with Professor Michel Haissaguerre in Bordeaux, France, who is credited with pioneering the technique of catheter ablation for AF. His postdoctoral research included non-invasive techniques to map the process of AF and other atrial and ventricular heart rhythm disorders. He first described a specific subset of patients with AF, who develop the persistent form of AF right from the onset. Dr Lim was the 2014 American Heart Association Samuel A. Levine Young Investigator Award Finalist for his postdoctoral research. Dr Lim has authored several book chapters and published extensively in the area of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr Lim’s research interests are in the area of heart rhythm disorders.
