Ikerne Aguirre Bielschowsky

 

Dr Ikerne Aguirre is a human geographer currently working as a research assistant to Prof. Lesley Head. She is supporting research on agriculture and the Anthropocene, and the project: “Exploring culturally diverse perspectives on Australian environments and environmentalism”.Ikerne is particularly interested in the processes that develop environmental practices, including environmental education for children, family dynamics, household environmental behaviour, and cultural influences.

Her interdisciplinary background includes a BSc in Oceanography, an MA on “Environmental education in primary schools in New Zealand and Mexico”, and a PhD on “Children’s electricity consumption in New Zealand households”. She has worked on a wide range of projects, such as energy efficiency in New Zealand homes, sustainable farming, environmental education, reports for the establishment of natural protected areas in Mexico, and impact assessments of coastal development proposals. In addition, she taught academic writing (for Master’s students in environmental sciences) and advanced English communication at the University of Tsukuba, Japan.
