Steph has worked as a teacher, director and performer in Australia, Europe, the Americas and Asia. Steph trained under Jacques Lecoq at Ecole International de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq and completed her teacher training in the Lecoq pedagogy under Thomas Prattki at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA).

Steph continued her training with Angela de Castro, John Wright, Jos Houben, Norman Taylor and Annabel Arden. Steph taught Movement and Theatre Making at LISPA for several years and taught Movement and Mask at the London Academy Music & Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), Rose Bruford College and Brunel University as well as for companies and festivals throughout the UK.

Steph was the founder and co-director of international ensemble Mondes Contraires (2000-2010). With a mission ‘to go towards’, the company created new works with artists and communities in the favelas of Brazil, on the Mongolian steppe, in the mountains of Nicaragua and throughout Switzerland. The company was invited to give mask workshops at the International Theatre Institute’s 2005 Conference in Ulaanbataar.

Returning to Australia in 2012, Steph was appointed Artist in Residence at the Women’s Circus and in 2014 became Artistic Director. With the Women’s Circus, Steph facililated a number of social circus projects with communities including Somewhere, Now working with women from refugee and asylum seeker communities and Art of Play working with newly arrived families across Melbourne’s west . Steph also directed a number of circus-theatre works including The Penelopiad (25th anniversary production, 2016), Water is Taught by Thirst (River of Lives Festival, 2015), The Chairs (Big West Festival, 2015), Nights at the Circus (2013).

Steph teaches at the John Bolton Theatre School and is an Associate Artist with Zen Zen Zo for whom she teaches regularly on their International Stomping Ground Workshop. Steph has collaborated as a perfomer with Born in a Taxi and has worked as an independent teaching artist with Circus Oz, RAWCUS, St Martin’s Youth Arts Centre, ArtPlay, Union House Theatre, Creative Victoria Artist in Schools Program, Regional Arts Victoria, QUT and the University of Sunshine Coast.
