hrough one of my PhD project, Dr Yap was able to conduct in-depth interviews with patients who had presented to the emergency departments during their crises. A number of the participants admitted having alcohol or drug addiction issues.
By listening to their stories, she has developed a better understanding of the complex issues that are faced by them. Her career goal is to apply her research skills in improving the quality of care for individuals with addiction problems. For the next 5 years, she intends to explore gaps in the current model of care for people at risk of drug addiction as well as those who have already developed drug dependence.
