Max Catchpool began work as a health economist at the University of Melbourne in July 2017. This position is jointly funded by the School of Population & Global Health and the National Health and Medical Research Council Centre for Research Excellence in Joint Replacement in the Department of Surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

He has project experience in the areas of genomic testing, hip and knee osteoarthritis, paediatric epilepsy and health state valuation.Max reviews evaluations for the Medical Services Advisory Committee at the Department of Health to inform decisions about listing of new Medicare items. He also tutors health economic short courses and contributes to the teaching of health economic units of the Masters of Public Health.Max chairs the OPUS CRE Data Linkage Sub-Committee. The purpose of this committee is to develop research links with large national and international data repositories with the aim of leveraging specific and population-based data to investigate and validate research questions and findings in osteoarthritis.Prior to joining the University of Melbourne, Max was employed as an Associate Research Fellow in the Centre for Population Health Research at Deakin University. He completed his Master of Health Economics with the same institution in November 2016.
