Anne Décobert is an anthropologist, development studies scholar and development worker specialising in: international and community development; humanitarian aid systems and practices; ethnic nationalism and conflict; refugee and migration studies; socio-cultural and medical anthropology; and applied anthropology and participatory development. Myanmar is her main country specialization, but she has also worked elsewhere in Southeast Asia and, more recently, with Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Anne's research and teaching focus broadly on the intersections between development, politics and conflict. More specifically, she is interested in intersections between development and: international aid; ethnic nationalism; indigenous movements; refugee and migration flows; transnational activism; and state and non-state authority, particularly in contested socio-political contexts. In addition to her academic work, Anne has worked for a number of years as a development worker for local and international Non-Government Organisations, and as a consultant for a range of local and international aid agencies in Southeast Asia. She is also currently managing an applied research project focusing on governance and community development in Indigenous Yolngu communities in Arnhem Land (Northern Territory, Australia).
