Ankur is a Lecturer in Epidemiology at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. Ankur completed his Ph.D. in Population Oral Health from the University of Adelaide in 2018 where he was awarded with the Dean’s Commendation for Research Thesis Excellence.

Ankur’s main research focus is in examining individual- and area-level social inequalities in health outcomes and modelling effectiveness of policy interventions for their reduction using population-based data. His contributions are in public health areas of population oral health, tobacco control and in socio-epidemiologic theories for explaining health inequalities. In his current role, Ankur applies advanced quantitative methods such as multilevel modelling, causal mediation techniques, simulation modelling based on multistate lifetables, as well as evidence synthesis methods such as systematic and scoping reviews.
Ankur works collaboratively with a team of researchers nationally and internationally interested in quantitative research on Social and Spatial Epidemiology. He has been involved in supporting core epidemiology subjects and creation of multiple online subjects based on contemporary epidemiological principles and methods at the post-graduate level.

Ankur has previously worked as a Research Associate with the Department of Health Promotion and Tobacco Control, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), New Delhi. His contributions spanned across multiple projects in the area of health promotion and tobacco control. Before joining PHFI, Ankur finished his M.Sc. in Dental Public Health from University College London (UCL), U.K with Distinction. He is currently the Chair of the Global Working Group on Social Determinants of Health at the International Union for Health Promotion and Education and has contributed towards several early career leadership roles in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne.
