Dr Alison Beauchamp is a Senior Research Fellow and Medical Research Future Fund NHMRC Translational Research into Practice (TRIP) Fellow with the Department of Medicine-Western Health, University of Melbourne and Program lead for 'Nursing and Allied Health' in the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS). Within the TRIP Fellowship, Dr Beauchamp is evaluating a process for implementing a clinical communication method called “teach-back”.

Her key research interests are the co-design of health literacy interventions with health services, consumers and practitioners; and using social epidemiological methods to understand the key drivers of health inequalities.
Alison is also Senior Lecturer in the School of Rural Health at Monash University (0.5 EFT). In this role, she supports local rural health services to build research and knowledge translation capacity among their staff.
She has a clinical background as a Registered Nurse with expertise in cardiac care, including cardiac rehabilitation. Dr Beauchamp completed a NHMRC PhD scholarship at Monash in 2011 with her thesis using epidemiological methods to explore social inequalities in heart disease. Between 2013 and 2015 she was an Australian Research Council post-doctoral Industry Fellow at Deakin University, where she managed the large Optimising Health Literacy (Ophelia) study in which she supported clinicians to implement health literacy interventions.
Dr Beauchamp has over 60 peer-reviewed publications and 3 book chapters. She has been an invited or keynote speaker at 7 international or national conferences, and lead or co-investigator on grants totalling over $3.5 million AUD. She currently co-supervises 2 part-time PhD scholars and has co-supervised 2 PhD and 3 honours students to successful completion.
