Irene Håkansson is a postdoctoral research fellow, working on sustainability and climate change experimentation in the cities of Melbourne and London. She is currently involved in a collaborative project with the City of Melbourne on 'sustainable test beds' to be established in the Melbourne Innovation District.

Moreover, she is working with colleagues from the University of Melbourne to explore the 'making of' and the political and social consequences of local governments' Climate Emergency Declarations.Positioning her work at the intersection of human geography and socio-technical transitions studies, Irene continues working on questions around the social and spatial distribution of innovation and activism associated with urban sustainability. She obtained her PhD from the Department of Geography at King’s College London where her research critically illuminated sustainability experimentation in the context of urban regeneration and gentrification. Her PhD position was embedded in the pan-European research project 'PATHWAYS - transition to sustainable, low-carbon societies'. Irene holds an MSc in Social-Ecological Resilience for Sustainable Development from Stockholm University and a BSc in Landscape Architecture from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna.
