Dr Philip Pond is Lecturer Digital Media Research Methods at the University of Melbourne. He specialises in the study of software systems and their influence on the production of meaning, especially in politics.

Currently, he is focussed on building digital research tools to study the production of extreme and post-truth discourses on social media sites like Twitter and Reddit. He has just completed his first book, The Complexity Problem, which proposes a framework for studying interaction between the digital and political systems. His next book is called Time Recoded and will be available late in 2020. It reviews the long history of time science and philosophy and proposes a theory to support time measurement in digital networks. He has published in major international journals including New Media and Society and Information, Communication and Society, on subjects including software, time theory and the temporal analysis of digital politics
