Joel Mackenzie is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Melbourne, working with Professor Alistair Moffat on techniques for building efficient and scalable representations of large text collections.Joel completed his PhD at RMIT University in 2019 under the guidance of Associate Professor J. Shane Culpepper and Professor Falk Scholer, where he examined how to manage high percentile tail latency in large-scale search engines.Joel's current research interests include indexing and compression, efficient query processing, large-scale search systems, user behaviour analysis, reproducibility, and evaluation. Joel also has a broad interest in data structures and algorithms.
