Courtney Walton

Dr Courtney Campbell Walton is a 2020-2023 McKenzie Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Mental Health in Elite Sports research group at The University of Melbourne. His work is primarily supervised by Associate Professor Simon Rice and Associate Professor Rosemary Purcell.

Courtney completed a Bachelor of Science with honours (Psychology) at Swinburne University of Technology, before undertaking a PhD in neuropsychology at the University of Sydney. Subsequently fuelled by a developing interest in mental health within high performing environments, Courtney undertook a Master of Psychology (Sport & Exercise) at the University of Queensland. Utilising both his applied training as a psychologist and varied experiences in research, Courtney’s aim is to understand the aspects of unstable and competitive environments that can both positively and negatively interact with our mental health. His research questions are currently being directed at early career researchers and elite athletes. To date, Courtney has obtained more than $400,000 in research funding, and has published over 35 peer reviewed scientific articles.
