Dr. Tomislav Bacek is a Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

Tomislav completed a Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 2012 and his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, in 2019.

He joined the University of Melbourne as a Research Fellow in Personalised Assistive Robotic Systems in June 2020.

Tomislav's main area of research is assistive and rehabilitation robotics. Currently, his work focuses on making human-robot interaction personalised, optimal, and co-adaptive.

Tomislav has a strong background in applied engineering shaped through design, integration, control, and validation of complex (compliant) mechatronics systems. His experience includes leading national and international research projects on intelligent robotic devices, analyses of large experimental datasets, as well as design, implementation, and coordination of human-robot interaction experiments. During his affiliation with universities in Croatia and Belgium, Tomislav was also a teaching assistant in dynamical systems control and mechanisms design.
