Dr Stephanie Filbay is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow within the Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine in the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne. She is also an Honorary Senior Research Associate in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford.

Stephanie’s research expertise includes evaluating and optimising outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament injury, developing and evaluating strategies to improve quality of life in people with knee osteoarthritis, comparing surgical and non-surgical approaches for managing musculoskeletal conditions, and evaluating the long-term musculoskeletal and psychological impacts of sports participation. She has expertise in a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Stephanie supervises a number of multidisciplinary researchers at various career stages, and has received fellowships to support her research at University of Southern Denmark, Linköping University and University of Oxford. She has presented over 30 times at national and international conferences and won numerous grants, scholarships and awards for her work. Dr Filbay serves on several committees for international organisations, including the Osteoarthritis Research Society International. She was recently awarded an NHMRC Investigator Grant to fund five years of research aimed at reducing the personal and societal burden of knee injury and post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis.
