Emily Karanges

 

Dr Emily Karanges is a Research Fellow (Youth Substance Use and Mental Health) at Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health and the Centre for Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne. Emily has a key role in the recently established partnership between Orygen’s Substance Use Research Group and Early Intervention Clinic (SURGE) and the Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS), which seeks to inform clinical practice and policy around youth substance use and mental health.

Key research areas include early intervention, functional impairment and functional recovery, and youth-focused treatment development.

Emily completed her PhD in psychology at the University of Sydney, focusing on the use and effects of antidepressants in adolescents. She has a background in behavioural neuroscience and pharmacoepidemiology, with a particular interest in psychotropic medicines, opioid analgesics and recreational drugs.
