Dr. Ali Saha (she/her) is a media sociologist and Lecturer in Media and Communication at the University of Melbourne. Her research examines the intersections of media, identity, and social equity, with particular attention to caste, race, gender, migration, and digital inequalities. She is the author of Dalit Identity in Indian Print Media (Routledge, 2026), with forthcoming books including Motherhood, Identity, and Media (Routledge, 2027) and the co-edited volume Women and Health Communication: A Global Perspective (Peter Lang, 2026). Her work has been published in leading international journals such as Media, Culture & Society, Women’s Studies International Forum, and Media International Australia, as well as numerous edited collections exploring media, marginalisation, and digital cultures.

In addition to her scholarly contributions, Dr. Saha has led and contributed to major Australian Government–funded research and communication projects with the Department of Health and Aged Care and national organisations, producing widely recognised reports on COVID-19 vaccine uptake, cancer screening, youth settlement, racism, and LGBTQI+ refugee and asylum seeker experiences.

Her research and industry work focus on improving communication equity for culturally and linguistically diverse communities, reflecting her commitment to socially impactful, community-engaged scholarship.

Dr. Saha brings over a decade of professional experience in media and communication and more than seven years of university teaching. She has taught and coordinated courses at the University of Melbourne, Monash University, and the Australian Catholic University, where she has developed innovative curricula on global media, digital cultures, and communication for social change.

She is frequently invited to deliver keynote addresses and guest lectures at national and international conferences and universities, and she served as a University of Melbourne Ambassador to organise the Australia–India Leading Together Conference 2025, supporting international research collaboration and dialogue. Her teaching excellence has been recognised with awards, including a Faculty of Arts Teaching Commendation at Monash University, and she is known for fostering inclusive, critically engaged learning environments that connect theory with practice. Bridging academic research, public scholarship, and professional communication practice, Dr. Saha’s work is driven by a commitment to social justice and meaningful social impact. She regularly presents keynote lectures and conference papers at major international forums, and contributes to interdisciplinary research networks and journals. Through her research, teaching, and public engagement, she seeks to advance more equitable and inclusive media systems and amplify marginalised voices in the digital age.
