David T. Runia is Professorial Fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne. He was formerly Professor of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy at Leiden University in the Netherlands (1992–2002) and Master of Queen's College in the University of Melbourne (2002–2016).

He is a recognised expert in ancient and patristic philosophy, with a particular focus on the Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria and the Platonist tradition. He is also engaged on a long-term research project on the doxographical sources for our knowledge of early Greek philosophy (together with Prof Jaap Mansfeld, Utrecht). After studying Classics, History and Philosophy at the University of Melbourne, he completed his dissertation at the Free University, Amsterdam in 1983. He was Chief Investigator of the ARC Discovery Project DP0985167 Aëtiana: laying foundations for the study of the history of ancient philosophy" 2005–2016. David Runia is also Director ad interim of the Institute for Religion and Critcal Inquiry, Faculty of Theology and Philosophy, Australian Catholic University (Melbourne campus).
