Don Asker

 

Don Asker studied science before focusing on dancing, dance making and forms of creative exploration. He danced and choreographed for many organisations including the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Australian Ballet, Sydney Dance Company and as an independent artist.

His work has been presented in North and South America, Europe, Korea, and China. Don sustains an improvising practice with interests in memory, perception, metaphors and myths shaping human experience, and relationships with places and country. He is based at Kiah in the Towamba River valley of south coastal New South Wales. Recent collaborations reflect ethical considerations in relationship to the ecology of our planet, Latitudinal conversations with Helen Herbertson (the Drill 2012) and presented in the Journal of Artistic Research, https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/29773/32861/0/0, his work as performer/collaborator in at least for a while, videography Daniel Crook, direction Natalie Cursio, presented at Carriageworks as part of 24 frames a second 2015, and in collaboration with Jane Mortiss in her work Divergence 2018. Don completed Masters and PHD research at the University of Melbourne. He is a senior honorary fellow at the University of Melbourne, supervising PHD and Masters candidates. Recent publications include The Art of Awareness (2018)Dancing the Landscape, in Karen Bond (Ed.) Dance and the Quality of Life, Springer, (2019)
