Millimetre-wave frequency bands are being explored for defence applications that provide better surveillance and detection electronic warfare capabilities. Microwave-photonic systems which integrate microwave and millimetre-wave electronic warfare capabilities with broadband photonic networking have been widely recognised as one of the crucial technologies to the development of new capabilities in current and next generation defence platforms.
