Apicomplexan plastids as drug targets

Abstract

Prokaryotic metabolic pathways in the relict plastid of apicomplexan parasites make this organelle a promising target for drug development. The parasiticidal activity of several herbicides and antibacterial antibiotics is suspected to be a result of their ability to inhibit key plastid activities. Copyright (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
