Abstract
1. 1. Yolk sac membrane incorporated radiocarbon into hexose phosphates, amino acids and several intermediates of the glycolytic pathway and tricarboxylic acid cycle. Yolk sac fluid likewise incorporated radiocarbon, but into fewer compounds. 2. 2. By gel electrophoresis, isozymic forms of lactic acid dehydrogenase and malic acid dehydrogenase were detected in yolk sac fluid which differed from maternal sera in proportion (LDH) and number (MDH); glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase was found to be a single band in both yolk sac fluid and serum. 3. 3. It is suggested that yolk sac fluid enzymes may be important for the conversion of metabolites prior to absorption by the developing embryo. © 197..
