The City of Melbourne’s ArtPlay is open to children aged three to thirteen years and provides a wide range of artist-led programmes that serve a broad community within and outside the municipality. This paper explores the multiple and intersecting narratives that come together to enable or restrict the learning potential of encounters between artists and children, with reference to research undertaken at this site in partnership with the University of Melbourne.
