Magnetic core-shell particles: preparation of magnetite multilayers on polymer latex microspheres

Abstract

Colloidal particles with magnetic properties are attractive due to their tunable anisotropic interactions. This article describes a new class of polystyrene-core magnetic-shell particles produced by the sequential adsorption of nanoparticles and polyelectrolyte. The construction of these and related core-shell particles opens new possibilities for technological applications of colloids.
