Laser induced photochemical position measurement: A new non-invasive optical deformation measurement technique

Abstract

This paper describes the use, accuracy, and repeatability of a new non-invasive optical deformation measurement technique, which was developed to quantify the response of the cervical spine and its soft tissues under loading. The technique, called laser induced photochemical position measurement (LIPPM), is a combination of laser induced photochemical anemometry (LIPA), a non-invasive optical diagnostic used in fluid flow visualization, and three-dimensional reconstructed position measurements (3DRPM).
