Abstract

The interaction between an inflectional boundary layer and a surface-mounted circular cylinder was investigated. A cylinder of height H and diameter d was placed downstream from a splitter plate placed at a height h above the floor of the wind tunnel test section, where h/H was 0.25. Velocity profiles were obtained for cases both with and without the plate. These profiles were examined for momentum content. Surface streaking and smoke injection visualizations were performed, indicating the presence of a horseshoe vortex around the base of the cylinder. Additionally, a second vortex of opposite sign vorticity was found upstream of and above the principal vortex. The results suggest that vorte..
