Abstract

Quantum dot electrodes (QDEs) have been constructed by deposition of Q- CdS particles onto indium-tin oxide substrates. Upon application of cathodic potentials to the electrodes in electrolytes containing persulfate ions (S2O82-), light emission is observed. The emission peak depends on the particle size, with electrolyte electroluminescence (EEL) being observed down to 478 nm (blue light) for CdS with a particle size of 3.6 nm.
