Abstract
New monomeric oxo dichloro 1,3-dialkyl p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene (R2calH2, R = Me, Et) complexes of molybdenum and tungsten are reported. The M(VI) complexes, (R2cal)MOCl2, are six-coordinate with a unique tridentate, “collapsed” calixarene unit (depicted). They are reduced to EPR-active M(V) complexes, [(R2cal)MOCl2]-, and have considerable potential as starting material for the expansion of group 6 calixarene chemistry.
