Abstract
The residual flavour degeneracy of the Susskind lattice action for two-dimensional QED may be removed by fixing one fermion's mass of order the cutoff while the other becomes massless. An alternative prescription in which the square root of the fermionic determinant is used in the effective action for the gauge field fails. © 1983.
