Abstract

The article thrusts into the critical limelight the principal Altarpiece by Jacques Stella, commissioned got the Jesuit church of the Noviciate in 1642. Acquired by James Goold the first Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne it has been in St Patrick's Cathedral since the nineteenth century.
