Abstract
We describe work in progress on the development of a model of cognitive processing for disturbance management in anesthesia. A computer simulation of a realistic and rapidly evolving disturbance has been constructed and used in an initial study with anesthesiologists. Our objective is to capture the complexities of the temporally constrained interactions between the anesthesiologist, the patient, and the anesthetic machinery. A major feature of our approach is the use of multiple sources of data. In this preliminary report we describe our methodology, data sources, and techniques for analyzing and modeling information-processing-action sequences within the total event. © 1992.
