Geoinformation system for prediction of peat fires and its validation

Abstract

A retrospective analysis of a previously proposed deterministic and probabilistic techniques is conducted to predict a peat fire hazard [1], using meteorological data, statistical data on the location and time of peat fire initiation in the Bakcharsky district of the Tomsk region of Russia for 1989-2012, as well as the base of thermal constants for types of peat. Analysis of the results shows that the new technique for prediction of the peat fire hazard more accurately indicates the day of fire initiation compared to National Standard that is used today in practice in Russia.
