Abstract

In recent years, research interest in Australia's strike problem has increased. Although comprehensive strike statistics exist for Australia back to 1913, there are limitations on the value of ABS data for research purposes — mainly because of rules of confidentiality. This article considers the various sources of information on indus trial disputes and surveys both the studies based on these statistics and the character istics of and trends in strike activity since the end of the Second World War. The authors conclude that there is a paucity of information and a need for further research. © 1985, Sage Publications. All rights reserved.
