Abstract

Thiazolidinediones (TZD) are synthetic orally active peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ ligands used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ gene plays an important role in regulating fat cell development, energy balance, and lipid metabolism in adipose and skeletal muscle tissue.
