Abstract
Introduction Since the first Lord Upjohn Lecture was delivered by Lord Diplock in 1971, 2 a further 16 have been offered by judges (or former judges) of the senior courts. Of these only five have chosen legal education as their sole or primary subject; Lord Neuberger is thus the latest of a small and distinguished group. 3 This by itself makes his lecture of interest to legal educationalists. That the intervention comes from no less than the President of the UK Supreme Court must also place a certain institutional call on our attention.
