Abstract
While a number of screening measures are available to detect perinatal depression, treatment engagement rates remain low, and there are both practical and attitudinal barriers to identification, help-seeking, and treatment. Further, there is limited evidence regarding the validity of screening measures across different ethnic and cultural groups. This chapter reviews literature to inform strategies aimed at overcoming such barriers. The chapter examines factors that influence screening and treatment of women with perinatal mental health disorders.
