Abstract

A laboratory scale rotating biological disk reactor with seven disks was considered to consist of eight ideally mixed compartments. The tracer response curves obtained by the stimulus-response technique were processed by curve-fitting for determination of the exchange ratio between adjacent compartments using the flow exchange tanks-in-series model. Empirical equations for calculating the exchange ratio as a function of the disk rotational speed and the influent flow rate were derived.
