A study of the genus Pyramimonas (Prasinophyceae) from southeastern Australia

Abstract

Eleven marine species of Pyramimonas Schmarda (including eight previously known species and three new species) from south‐eastern Australia are examined by light microscopy, thin‐section electron microscopy and freeze‐etch electron microscopy. The genus is shown to comprise at least three natural sub‐groups on the basis of a range of ultrastructural and biochemical characteristics, and three sub‐genera are erected.
