Abstract

In data from the Busselton population, hypertension was associated with an increased prevalence of rheumatoid factor in both men and women; smoking, obesity and glucose intolerance were associated with various tissue autoantibodies in men. Angina was more prevalent than expected in obese men with tissue autoantibodies, and this could not be explained as a confounding effect of age, blood pressure, serum cholesterol, one hour blood glucose level or smoking history. In women, angina was associated with an increased prevalence of rheumatoid factor. © 1976.
