From Script to Novel: An exploration of Reverse Adaptation

Abstract
Through a combination of creative practice, primary interviews with writers and scholarly discussion, this thesis investigates the little known topic of reverse adaptation; that is, adaptation of a screenplay to the novel format. Traditional book-to-screen adaptation is a well-established phenomenon in both creative and scholarly arenas. Within our rapidly evolving media landscape, however, our understanding of ‘adaptation’ must be broadened to include a new array of modes in which content flows between entertainment mediums and outlets.
