Abstract
This paper presents results from direct numerical simulations (DNS) of a turbulent flow convecting over an elastic trailing-edge(TE) and compares them to results from the same set-up with a rigid TE. The elastic TE was found to damp and amplify the noise at the dominant frequency and its first harmonic of the incident pressure fluctuations, respectively. Furthermore the elastic trailing-edge case shows distinct peaks at frequencies related to the natural frequencies of the structural motion in the noise spectrum of the far-field. An analysis of the incident pressure field suggests that these additional peaks are not due to the TE noise mechanism.
