Abstract

Core anatomy knowledge for prostate surgeons includes prostate and seminal vesicle anatomy as well as a comprehensive understanding of surrounding structures. Optimal potency outcomes following radical prostatectomy rely on awareness of the variability and complexity of the neurovascular bundle and the fascial layers surrounding the prostate. Appreciation of the pelvic musculature, including the urethral sphincter complex and its innervation, is integral to maximizing continence outcomes. Prostate surgeons must also understand key vascular structures encountered at radical prostatectomy, including the dorsal venous complex and accessory pudendal arteries.
