Abstract
Robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a complex and demanding procedure where surgeon case volume and technical ability have been shown to significantly affect both functional and oncological outcomes. As increasing numbers of urologists take up RARP, the issue of how best to learn this procedure becomes fundamental. There are a variety of different methods currently being employed to pass on these complex skills to novices at the procedure. We examine the data surrounding the teaching and learning of RARP and make suggestions as to how to proceed to proficiency from any of the possible starting points.
