Abstract

The micelle size distribution of two poly (oxyethylene) nonylphenol nonionic surfactants with mean ethylene oxide numbers of 9 and 30 has been investigated using a new development of the ultrafiltration technique. Fractionation of the micellar solution by various membranes reveals details of the distribution of micelle sizes present at any given concentration. Results are compared with light scattering measurements from which concentration dependent mean aggregation numbers are derived. The results are discussed in terms of several current models of micelle formation. © 1989.
