Hydrothermal Preparation and Characterization of Optically Transparent Colloidal Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2)

Abstract

A method is described for the hydrothermal preparation of the mixed metal sulfide chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) at low temperatures (95–100 °C) and at atmospheric pressure. The preparation produces optically transparent sols with a particle size range of 50–90 Å. Optical absorption measurements show that the CuFeS2 particles have an absorption maximum at 470 nm (ϵ470 = 7.1 × 104 M−1 cm−1) and a band gap of 0.6 ± 0.1 eV. © 1991, American Chemical Society.
