Abstract
Surface pressure measurements have been made on aqueous solutions of n-dodecyl β-D-maltoside (DM), n-dodecyl octaoxyethylene glycol monoether (C12E8), and DM/C12E8 mixtures. The surface pressure data were treated in terms of the Gibbs adsorption equation and the standard free energies of micellization and adsorption at the air/saturated monolayer interface have been calculated. The experimental results for the minimum areas per molecule (Amin) and the cmc values of the DM/C12E8 mixtures were found to be in the close agreement with the values calculated from the assumption of ideal mixing of the two components. It is postulated that this apparent ideal behavior may be due to the tightly bound..
