Young children as learners with rights

Abstract

This chapter will draw on the key principles underlying the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) (1989) and research to position young children as dynamic and capable participants in the learning process. In will highlight the key rights-based general principles, policy directives and research studies that underscore the central importance of relationships and interactions between adults and children and the impact that they have for learning and teaching.
