Abstract

The effect of chloramine T used during iodination reactions on the quaternary structure of several proteins is investigated. Increasing the levels of oxidising agent usually leads to an increase in the proportion of iodine incorporated into high molecular weight material and at the same time effects dissociation of the subunit structure of the protein. Chloramine T induced dissociation was monitored by the increase in the fluorescent activity of the protein in the presence of 8-analino-1-naphthalene sulphonate used as a probe. Possible immunological implications of chloramine T induced dissociation of oligomeric proteins are discussed as well as a role for chloramine T in investigating the a..
